Our wonderful son, Nathan Thoi Nguyen Thomas, was taken from us on Thursday, July 11th. We are devastated that we lost him so young (age 30), but have wonderful memories of him that we will cherish forever. Nathan had a warm, caring spirit and clever sense of humor. Everyone fortunate enough to spend time with Nathan felt privileged to know him.

Nathan was born in Vietnam. We were blessed to have Nathan and his brother become a part of our family in 1997. Nathan and Matthew were inseparable and each other’s best friend.

Despite numerous health challenges, Nathan never complained. He was the strongest person we knew, never letting his illness define him, even after suffering a stroke on his last day of high school at Bloomington High School North in 2013. He continued his studies at the University of Evansville and IUPUI, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Technology.

Nathan worked the last three years as a Web Applications Developer at IU Foundation. He was very passionate about information technology. He loved programming and even did it for fun in his spare time. We are going to miss our family IT support person. He loved discussing technology and exploring various subjects with anyone willing to engage.

Nathan's heart was full of love for many things. He played piano and violin including playing at Carnegie Hall with the Hoosier Youth Philharmonic. He loved his cat (Kirra), orcas, cooking, fishing, geocaching, and Japanese culture. Nathan was also brilliant at solving the daily Wordle.

Those of us who were lucky enough to know Nathan will miss him dearly. His loving and caring spirit will be in our hearts forever.

Nathan is survived by his brother and best friend, Matthew Thomas, parents, Amy and James Thomas, grandmother, Marjorie Thomas, and his family in Vietnam, birthmother Nguy?n Li?n, sister, Nguy?n Uyên, and brothers Nguy?n Tu?n and Nguy?n Trí. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Amy Kleinschmit and grandfather James W Thomas.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation for Nathan at St Mark’s United Methodist Church in Bloomington on Saturday, July 27th, from 1:00 to 2:15. There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:30 with a reception to follow. Nathan’s family requests, in lieu of flowers, to please consider a donation to St Mark’s UMC for the Nathan Thomas Memorial Fund to support Appalachia Service Project (ASP) and Operation Friendship (OF), or a donation to the Lupus Research Alliance. Online condolences, photos, and memories may be shared with family and friends at www.allencares.com.
