Roger Lee Owings, 93, a lifelong resident of Bloomington passed away Thursday evening, July 11, 2024 at the Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on May 30, 1931 to Frank and Opal Eads Owings.
Roger had a very unique work history as he started with Studebaker in Bloomington, which then became Franklin, which then became Hot Point and ultimately General Electric as one of it’s first employees, where he spent 26 years before retirement. While not working he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially time in the outdoors. He was an avid squirrel, bow hunting deer and mushroom hunter.
Roger leaves behind his sons, Ricky Owings and wife, Jami, and Steve Owings both of Bloomington, grandchildren, Wendy, Nathan and Thomas Owings, Nichole Willoughby and husband Doug, Megan Turner, seven great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Brent Owings, grandson Jonathan Owings, great grandson Devontia Owings and his wife Charlotte.
Funeral services for Roger will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 11 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. Burial will follow in the Salt Creek Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Charlotte.
