Ronald Leon “Ron” Sparks, 90, of Bloomington passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Owen Valley Rehabilitation and Healthcare. Ron was born April 13, 1934, the oldest of six children born to Laudios George “Buck” and Clara Lucille (Starnes) Sparks.
Ron graduated from Bloomington High School and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University. Ron was a Librarian, specializing in Rare Book Collections, having worked at the University of Arizona, San Francisco Library and retired from California State University. Ron was a member of Stanford Baptist Church until he left Bloomington and then was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Bloomington after his retirement. Ron traveled extensively around the world and enjoyed visiting new destinations.
Ron is survived by his sisters – Bernadene Koons, Kay Elkins, Sharon Clark and Marilyn Deckard, along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ron in death were his parents; sister, Pat Stull; niece, Heather Sims; and 5 brothers-in-law, Tom Stull, Sonny Koons, Bill Elkins, Jack Clark, and Rex Deckard.
Graveside services for Ron will be 2:30pm Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Greene County Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Ron’s memory to Greene County Chapel Cemetery.
