When is the 2024 DNC? Here's what to know about the Democratic National Convention

Former President Donald Trump formally accepted the Republican party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential race at the Republican National Convention. The meeting of party delegates kicked off in Milwaukee on Monday.  

Trump also announced his running mate on the convention's first day, choosing Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his vice presidential running mate.

While all eyes are on Milwaukee, Democrats are gearing up for their convention later this summer.  The convention will be an opportunity for Biden's campaign to convince the rest of his party that he is still the best chance for Democrats to win the general election.  

Here’s what to know about the upcoming Democratic National Convention. 

When is the Democratic National Convention 2024? 

Democratic party officials are preparing for this year's Democratic National Convention, which will take place later this summer. The convention will start on Monday, Aug. 19, and run through Thursday, Aug. 22.

Where is the 2024 Democratic National Convention? 

The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago. The city had not hosted a democratic convention since 1996 when former President Bill Clinton was nominated for his second term. 

What is the DNC? 

Officials from the Democratic Party will travel from all over the country to a convention where delegates will nominate presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2024 election.  

The delegates from each state vote according to their primary election.
