Last week, we asked readers who has the best french fries in the Milwaukee area.

After more than 100 responses to our survey, Layman Brewing in West Allis and the I'll Take A Bite Of That food truck tied for the best (both had a little help through social media).

Layman Brewing, 6001 W. Madison St., is known for its food as much as its beer. Its menu includes hand-cut fries, sweet potato fries and popular loaded chili cheese fries.

One reader said, "Your fry was a potato about five minutes before it becomes a fry." Another said, "Perfect amount of crispiness, saltiness, fry-iness."

I'll Take A Bite Of That, which usually sets up at 10110 W. Metro Auto Mall in Milwaukee, serves burgers, sandwiches, chicken, loaded fries and nachos.

You can get two kinds of loaded fries — regular, which are topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, giardiniera and shredded cheese, or BBQ chicken bacon ranch, which are topped with lettuce, shredded cheese, grilled chicken and turkey bacon, drizzled with Donnie Ray's sweet heat sauce and ranch dressing. Its menu also includes regular cheese fries and regular seasoned fries.

"Best fries with the best toppings," a reader said.

The loaded fries from the I'll Take A Bite Of That food truck are a reader favorite in Milwaukee.

A frequent best-burger choice, Crave Café, 3592 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood, was a close runner-up for favorite fries. Besides the standard version, it also has BBQ, cheddar, Cajun and ranch varieties.

“The seasoning is so tasty,” one reader said. “Also, the fries are just the right combination of crispy without being too thin and still have some good soft potato in the middle.”

Crave Café is closed while the owners are on vacation but will reopen July 6.

Culver’s, the ubiquitous Wisconsin burger-and-frozen-custard chain, was right behind Crave Café.

So was Oscar’s Pub & Grill, 1712 W. Pierce St. in Milwaukee, with several readers praising its crispy garlic parmesan fries. Oscar’s also won our reader contest for best cheeseburger in Wisconsin.

Honorable mention fries go to the beef fat fries at Bavette La Boucherie, 217 N. Broadway St. in Milwaukee; Big Deal Burgers & Custard, 1440 S. 84th St. in West Allis; Kopp’s Frozen Custard, multiple locations; McDonald’s, multiple locations; Saint Bibiana, 1327 E. Brady St. in Milwaukee; and Shawarma King, 2713 E. Bremen St. in Milwaukee.
