We asked, you answered.

National French Fry Day is coming up in July, as are the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. In honor of that, and France's in-name-only tie to this beloved American food, we asked you to decide which local restaurant serves up the best fries in Binghamton.

There's nothing like a hot plate of french fries to share with the table — or eat entirely by yourself — and our readers' poll showed a variety of personal preferences from fries cut thick or thin, waffle or curly, lightly seasoned or parmesan truffle, even drowning in cheese curds and gravy.

Binghamton Hots at 128 Washington St. in downtown Binghamton was named the winner of the Press & Sun-Bulletin/pressconnects french fry poll, after receiving 18.89% of the vote.

The race was tight — Binghamton Hots surpassed the runner-up by a single vote.

  1. Binghamton Hots, 18.89%
  2. Burger Mondays, 18.67%
  3. Old Union Hotel, 15.33%
  4. Ripics Carousel Lanes, 12.44%
  5. Park Diner, 8%

What to know about Binghamton Hots' fries

Poll winner Binghamton Hots started as a late-night spot serving up spiedies and hot plates to students downtown and later expanded its menu and hours to become a local community staple.

We found Binghamton Hots' fries to be a solid representation of traditional french fries — standard cut, soft potato on the inside, crunchy on the outside.

Two things can make or break a good fry, the level of saltiness and the dipping sauces. Binghamton Hots' serves up fries with three sauce options: ketchup, cheese or a spicy sriracha sauce. A side of these fries will cost you $3.95, or $4.95 for sweet potato fries.

Binghamton Hots' fry prowess doesn't stop at the standard cut. The menu also offers additional toppings and seasoning for the restaurant's loaded fries selections. These fries are more expensive than the standard side, but with everything you get in one order of them, you can count these as a meal.

Old Bay french fries are served with a sriracha aioli. Loaded fries are topped with your choice of chili or chicken, and come with onion, tomato, jalapeño, cheddar cheese and sriracha aioli.

Plus this curveball: loaded tots.

Though not strictly french fries, this Binghamton Hots menu item deserves a mention, if only for the number of ways you can order them. Your choices include Philly-style, Buffalo chicken, pulled pork, or chili and cheese.
