New food truck, Top Notch Filipino Fusion, opens on south side of Bloomington
There's a new Filipino food truck serving on the south side of Bloomington. Top Notch Filipino Fusion is open from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday on the edge of the parking lot for Pomp's Tire Service at 3951 S. Walnut St. The parking lot is best accessed off Rhorer Road just across from the southside Kroger.
Owners Jeff and Maria Milliken have been catering events for several years, but just opened the food truck this summer. They say the food they create is much like what they eat at home. What's available includes rice dishes of carne frita, featuring marinated beef cooked with onion, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar and lemon; chicken teriyaki; Bicol express, a spicy pork dish that's stewed in coconut milk and has bell peppers, carrots and green chili peppers; and pork adobo, marinated pork in a sweet, spicy sauce that has garlic, bell peppers and onions.
All the meals come with two lumpia Shanghai, which are Filipino eggrolls with chicken, garlic, carrot and onion stuffing. The meals are $13 each. Top Notch also has other lumpia options including pork, beef and vegetable.
Other options that sometimes appear on the menu or can be ordered include a Filipino sweet and spicy beef stew, bakareta, that has sweet potatoes, carrots, pineapple and sauce, and a rice noodle dish, pancit bihon.
Top Notch makes halo halo, the summertime dessert of the Philippines that contains crushed ice, milk, and sweet fruits and treats. The food truck also has water, soda and coffee.
People can stop by the food truck when it's open to order or call 812-345-8198 to order ahead. For more, check out their Facebook page.
Two Sticks Bakery closed for summer break
It's hot outside and it's summer — two reasons for Two Sticks Bakery to be closed now through July 22 for its annual summer break. But don't worry: There will be sweet and savory goodies ready for customers at 415 S. Washington St. when it reopens on July 23.
