Letters: No 500-bed jail in Monroe County, People's Market celebrates Project DASH

No 500-bed jail needed

Do we really need a 500-bed jail in Monroe County? We just had a new hospital built for 210 patients.

At the Regional Academic Health Center, where IU Health Bloomington Hospital is located, they spent over $557 million to build this 210-bed hospital and 117,000-square-foot Health Sciences Building. Monroe Hospital has just 32 beds. To propose a jail of over 500 beds is going overboard!

How many millions is this going to cost taxpayers? This needs to be evaluated because our jail is supposed to be short-term holding facilities for awaiting trial or sentencing. We do not need to have a large jail with capacity of this size. If we cannot get by with 300 beds, then people need to be moved through the justice system faster instead of being held for long periods of time. Is there not a rule of 180 days?

No 500-bed jail in Monroe County.

People's Cooperative Market celebrates 100 million meals served with Project DASH

As a local organization serving Bloomington, Indiana, People’s Cooperative Market (PCM) is thrilled to join DoorDash in celebrating 100 million meals through Project DASH. In partnership with DoorDash, we have been able to provide critical programming for our community, including free home delivery of local nutrient-dense food.

Providing vulnerable neighbors with nutritious and continuous food resources has a tangible impact on combating nutritional insecurity and ensuring every member of our community has access to the food they need. We are proud that our 300+ deliveries are a part of this 6 million deliveries and 100 million meal milestone.

At PCM, we work tirelessly to meet the people we serve where they are, every week. Programs like Project DASH are critical to ensuring that our efforts break down even more barriers and meet the challenges of our local community, reaching those most in need. If you would like to support our mission, please visit peoplesmarketbtown.org or donate to the work we’re doing to end food insecurity and build a supportive food system.
