Two New Reviews for “When I Remember Love”

When I Remember Love received two new professional reviews.better-book-cover
You can read the reviews on my site under Book Reviews or go
right to the sources, Manic Readers and Romance Junkies.  Here is a taste:

Trish Silver provides a wonderful take on what life for a contestant
on a reality television show is like after the last performance. She gives a
remarkable view of the world beyond and how a star is born. The original
music that was made for the novel only adds to the magical ambiance that
Ms. Silver so marvelously crafts. This is a story for anyone who has ever
been in love or ever dreamed of finding the special person meant for them.

The Joys of Tantric Sex

Jenna and AidenWhen I began writing “When I Remember Love,” I had no idea of the meaning of tantric sex.  However, when I later read about this method of lovemaking I was delightfully surprised to realize my characters were already ardently practicing it.

Tantric sex is all about brewing passion…to tempt, tease then thoroughly please.  It involves the man having total control of his body, trying many positions with his partner, special breathing techniques, and holding back his climax as long as he can to give his lover the ultimate sexual pleasure experience.  Some of these practices of course involve the woman’s efforts as well.

Jenna and Aidan are truly exceptional for a very young couple, in that they have the wisdom and passionate desire to bring each other pleasure, no matter the challenges they might face.  They worship each other’s mind, body, heart and spirit. Their mutual, incredible love has carried them far beyond mere love making, into the glorious realm of tantric sex.

With love as their teacher, they have instinctively initiated the traditional components of the tantric sex philosophy into their lifestyle.  Their love, trust and heartfelt desire to fulfill each other’s needs, and bring each other extreme pleasure, have together afforded them the opportunity to go far beyond mere genital pleasures, all the way to the realm of whole body orgasms not achieved by most couples, who instead simply settle for much less pleasure in their sex lives.

So Jenna and Aidan are not only remarkable in their consideration, respect and mutual love for one another, but as a natural result they have unknowingly incorporated the tantric sex experience into their lives, and thus have vastly enhanced their sexual pleasure.

Couples who have consciously studied and practiced tantric sex often claim that these ancient sexual techniques brought them much closer. They often make love for hours and hours, with ever more variety, spontaneity and passion, and their overall intimacy deepens considerably.  Ovid:  “In love there can be no haste.”

It’s true:  As the sexual connection with your lover deepens you desire to have sex more frequently too, and therefore, the quality of your love lives greatly improves in more ways than one.  The effects snowball, in the most beneficial possible ways.

Why Trish Silver Decided to Self-publish, “When I Remember Love”

When the characters in my book came to me in a dream and I started to write my great American romance  novel, I never thought that I would publish it. Well… with much perseverance and sweat, blood and tears, I actually did finished it. It took me four years because of many obstacles (that I will divulge in a later blog). I had twelve readers to start out with and they all gave me honest criticism as I finished each chapter. A writer needs  input and they validated me and my talent. Most of my readers thought it was an exceptional work of art and a couple readers thought that it needed more conflict between my two main characters. I pondered the thought, but as the story unfolded I knew that I didn’t want to demean their love and so I wrote it my way. I dared to write a “love story” between two married altruistic people with a hot sex life. Writing those sexual scenes and keeping them fresh was not easy, but extremely necessary and my characters guided me through it (thank you Jenna and Aidan).

I became a new unknown energized author and sent out a few query letters to agents. They always were kind and wrote me back that although the premise of my story was interesting, they had too many authors at the present time.

I went to The Romance Writer’s of America Conference in San Francisco with a finish manuscript and a lot of enthusiasm. The first and last agent I talked to loved my presentation, but wanted to cut my novel down from 127,000 words to 90,000 (the standard for the industry). I was horrified and said no thank you. She looked at me like I was insane, shaking her head from side to side in shock. She assured me that her editor would do a great job with the revisions. I, in turn, said that I wasn’t interested. I had a songwriting team to think about, and I suspected  from speaking to this nice agent that my rights would be taken away forever.

I knew  it was the beginning of the recession, but I was savvy and almost from the inception saw the writing on the wall. I would most likely self- publish and as agents told me politely I would be shooting myself in the foot. Ouch!! I knew that it would be expensive, but somehow I would find the money and promote the book myself.

I studied self-publishing and here is what I learned:

Stephen King’s first four novels were rejected. This guy from Maine sent in this novel over the transom,
said Bill Thompson, his former editor at Doubleday. Mr. Thompson, sensing something there, asked to see subsequent novels, but still rejected the next three. However, King withstood the rejection, and Mr. Thompson finally bought the fifth novel, despite his colleague’s lack of enthusiasm, for $2,500. It was called Carrie.

During his entire lifetime, Herman Melville’s timeless classic, Moby Dick, sold only 3,715 copies.

Not bad company for a new author who is getting “Great” reviews!

I then studied traditional publishing:

Authors’ advances were being slashed radically as a result of the slump. Together with the canceling of contracts because a delivered manuscript was ‘not good enough’ or is behind schedule, this is all part of publishers’ trying to do something to cut their expenses. The cutting of publishing lists to trim down savings in books has been the foremost feature of the recession to date, so far authors are worried, with an ensuing sadness over the mid list. Bright new writers are experiencing greater difficulty than ever before in getting their books taken on by a publisher. Now figures are emerging that even premier authors are having their advances disappear.

Self-publishing was the path I choose.

The romance genre, of which I write is doing very nicely, thank you, in spite of the recession. I hired a publicist, marketing coach, and a Web master. We are all learning to work together as a “team”, but I am confident that we will succeed. It’s not an easy road,
but I have a passion and that passion is to have my voice be heard.

Not Another, Cheating, Drug Abusing Rockstar Celebrity Porn Story

The reason that I just wrote my last blog about the homeless is because it’s a big part of my book. I don’t want anyone to think that my book is one dimensional, because my novel is so much more. I hope that my book not only arouses people’s sexual senses, but raises their awareness and social consciousness. I wrote “When I Remember Love,” not only to titillate but to show that fidelity can exist among married couples in love.

I was watching Nightline the other night and saw a segment called “Born to Cheat?” On the show Pastor Ed Young said that if a couple has a great sexual life it’s not necessary for the spouses to stray outside the marriage. This passage about passion and sexuality is actually a scripture in the bible. This validates to me the choice I made early on to craft my characters with integrity and fidelity. I was glad that I didn’t bow to the pressures from publishers and evaluators to add more conflict through cheating and drug use. I wanted this not to be the typical pop star rise and fall story about a celebrity being corrupted by fame and fortune. I wanted to prove that you one could write an exciting story without stooping to that level.

By the way, I’m still struggling with blogging but I’m learning to tolerate it.

The Plight of the Homeless (Jenna’s House,”When I Remember Love.”)

In my novel, I profile a homeless woman. I have always had a deep fondness for people less fortunate than myself. We live in the land of plenty, yet still have innocent children living on the streets. This is a horror story in the making. There are little provisions provided for these children, and it’s a poor reflection of our country as a free nation. Homelessness with children involved is increasing at an alarming rate.

Because of the economy people are losing their jobs, homes and 70% of them have been living paycheck to paycheck. They find themselves on the street and in some cases; they become vagrants, which in most cases classifies them as criminals. For many homeless people, this life consists of waiting in lines at food banks, occasional arrests, periodic harassing and finding a clean place to sleep that won’t put them in harm’s way.  It’s an appalling life that one cannot fully understand, unless put in that situation.

I want to be a special voice for the homeless and someday be able (through charitable contributions and book sales) to open up homeless sanctuaries around the country that will teach these poor souls a new vocation, spiritual guidance and counseling. A drug free environment is crucial and the schooling for these children is mandatory at a local public school. All school clothes and supplies will be new and given to the children to increase self-esteem.  They will be able to stay in the facility for eighteen months while they build their self-esteem and self-confidence with the help of psychological counseling. After the allotted time, they will be given money to start their new lives and the sanctuary will find them employment.  Would you join me in my quest to end homelessness in America and be a voice of motivation for these unfortunate individuals?

Kama Sutra, Tantric Sex and Orgasm

An article titled, “Playfulness-Can Getting Experimental Lead To Orgasm?” written  by Suzie Heumann on the Huffington Post Website was brought to my attention by a friend who’s an avid reader of that site. She was surprised to see my book cover photo displayed with this article.

I was delighted and amazed seeing my book cover image displayed in this enlightening article.  Given that the subject of this article is reflected in the storyline of my book, it leads me to wonder if Suzie Heumann read my novel, “When I Remember Love.”  I hope that my book will add to the enlightenment provided by Suzie’s intelligently written article about the joys of intimacy.

Birthdays and Fun Times with My Family

I am going to San Diego tomorrow for my son Matt’s Birthday and to celebrate my grandson Jack’s 7th Birthday on Saturday. I can’t wait to see them…they’re my heart along with Sarah, Kathy, David and my husband, Ed. Family is what’s most important to me. They’re the backbone of my life.

Yesterday, I went to play cards with Rose again, and I lied to you all; she’s actually ninety –one and beat me again in Shanghai Rummy. Oh well, she is a card shark. What can I say? She’s a better card player than I. I’ll miss playing with her next week.  I adore her.

By the way,  view my book trailer then  take advantage of the free book offer, they’re going fast! The reviews have been great!

I’ll write tomorrow and give you some great tips on marketing your novel.
